Non-DOT

Non-DOT employee drug testing, built around your policy

If you are not federally regulated, the panel, the reasons for testing, and the consequences are yours to set. We build the program to match your policy and run it on the Abbott eScreen network so results are fast, consistent, and defensible.

  • Panels and testing reasons set to your policy
  • Close to 20,000 collection sites nationwide
  • Same-day negatives on rapid collections
  • MRO review included, not an upsell
  • State-specific requirements applied per location
  • No minimum employee count

Testing reasons we support

One account covers every situation your policy names, so you are not opening a new order type under pressure.

  • Pre-employment screening for new hires
  • Random testing under your own selection rate
  • Reasonable suspicion, with supervisor documentation support
  • Post-accident testing with fast turnaround
  • Return-to-duty and follow-up testing

Panels and methods

Match the method to the risk rather than testing everyone the same way.

  • 5-panel and 10-panel urine screens
  • Expanded panels including synthetic and prescription opioids
  • Hair follicle testing for roughly a 90-day window
  • Breath and lab-based alcohol testing
  • Physicals and occupational health services

Where employers get into trouble

Non-DOT programs fail on inconsistency, not on the lab. A policy that is applied to one employee and not another, a result acted on without MRO review, or a panel that conflicts with state law is where claims come from. Your account is configured so the same process runs every time and the paperwork exists afterward.

Industries we screen

Construction, manufacturing, warehousing and logistics, healthcare, staffing, hospitality, financial services, and government contractors - including employers with both DOT-regulated and non-regulated employees who need both programs under one roof.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is the difference between DOT and non-DOT drug testing?
DOT testing follows 49 CFR Part 40: a fixed panel, federal chain of custody, mandatory MRO review, and federal reporting. Non-DOT testing follows your own written policy, so you choose the panel, the reasons for testing, and the consequences, within state law.
Which panel should a non-DOT employer use?
Most employers use a 5-panel or 10-panel urine screen. Add alcohol testing for safety-sensitive roles, or hair follicle testing when you want a longer detection window.
Do state marijuana laws affect our program?
Yes. Several states restrict testing for marijuana or restrict acting on a positive result for non-safety-sensitive roles. We configure your account for the states you operate in and flag where your policy needs review by counsel.
Do we still need MRO review?
It is not federally required for non-DOT tests, but we include it. MRO review is what separates a confirmed positive from a legitimate prescription, and it is what makes a result defensible if the employee challenges it.
Is there a minimum number of employees?
No. We support single-location small businesses and multi-state employers on the same platform.
