DOT random testing

DOT-regulated employers must test a minimum percentage of covered employees each year, in unannounced draws, using a scientifically valid random method. We handle the mechanics.

Consortium pools for small operators

What are the DOT random testing rates?
FMCSA sets minimum annual random rates for drug and alcohol testing, and they can change year to year. We apply the current published rates to your pool so your selections meet the requirement without you tracking the rule changes.
How are employees selected?
Selections are generated by a computerized random number process from your covered pool, in unannounced draws spread reasonably throughout the year. Every employee has an equal chance in every draw.
What is a consortium and do I need one?
A consortium combines multiple small employers into one random pool. It is the practical option for owner-operators and small fleets, because a one-driver pool would otherwise mean testing that driver repeatedly.
Can we run random testing for non-DOT employees?
Yes. Non-regulated employers can run a random program under their own written policy, with the selection rate and panels they choose, as long as the policy is applied consistently.
What happens when someone is selected?
You receive the notification, the employee is sent to a nearby collection site, and the result posts to your account with MRO review on any non-negative. We document each step for your audit file.
